You can upgrade your standard machine gun into a flamethrower, a scatter gun, or a laser. Luckily, you've got the firepower to blow up anything in your path. You'll typically find yourself jumping from platform to platform while under fire from alien troops. Levels are a mix of both platforming and frantic action. One button is for jumping, and the other is for shooting. With these changes in place, many fans consider the Konami NES version of Contra to be the definitive experience. The gameplay in Contra is similar to other action titles released in 1988. The NES version features more levels, enemies, and bosses than the arcade iteration. While Contra for the NES is a version of the arcade game of the same name, it has almost twice as much content. This army, led by the Red Falcon, will stop at nothing to subjugate the entire planet. I have around 20 runs that I want to do so improving of this run for me isn't important. In Contra for the Nintendo, it's up to two shirtless commandos to stop an evil alien army from destroying the Earth. This was my goal and I'm satisfied with the run. Maybe will hook up the game in the future again, who knows? But I don't think so. I still need some experience from some places in the game to beat it even faster. There still is some crappy places in the run as you can see and I think I can beat this time with at least ten seconds. Other then that I just made my way to the boss and killed him, HEH! If it wouldn't I should continue forward and stay between a spiky hammer and a spiky wall.Īlien's lair I stop one time when I turned around and tried to shot a "white shot". One time it was becuse the game lagged and I stopped becuse of it would be to risky if I should keep rushing. I lost time in two or three places and the game lagged more then it use to. Probably the slowest worst played place in the run. But This is easier and don't cost me time and strees when get trough the other fires/lasers. I know you can skip the "B" and just jump over the Fire/laser thing instead. I didn't need to stop around the last enemie here. Sometimes you can kill the top eyes even when they are splitted and I wanna hold my already good fire. I continue to shot when it isn't necassary. I have done faster here too but I had luck that some bullets from my spread weapon also killed the right eye-thing in the end of the fight. It has something to do with the scrolling of the screen (?) A guy named "Toorzk" or something told me that he use to do this glitch jumps when he play with his friend (2 player). Hope someone will descover it in the future. But I don't know if it randomness or some technique to do it. Its also possible to do many glitch jumps on this stage. I don't know how or if you kill his tentacles has something to do with it. If so he need to open the mouth longer then this time. Somehow two enemies never showed up and the boss was killed fast. sometimes I kill him more then 5 seconds faster then this. Its becuse its fun to shot more then Ramboo I guess. I did some very unneccacary shots in the run. You actually don't have to shot so fast to succeed with this shots. If I don't pull out more then two waves of shot I just try to slow down my shooting a bit and then shot faster again. so in some places I just "charge" on closer enemies, walls or the bottom of the screen before I can "release" the spread shots on enemies in the other side of the screen. If the target is close you can easilly perform this type of shots. When you get more then the normal two waves of bullets I just mash the "B" button as fast as i can to hold it ) Sometimes I kill enemies very quick, some times not. Its hard and you have to shot in right tempo or so. And this is why I can't get close to the TAS time. Its becuse when I shall kill a single small target when I'm not close to it then I want to do this type of special fire. And its the best weapon almoust every were but its hard to use it sometimes. Just the "Shaking my arm technique"Īs fast as I took the spread weapon I had it in the hole run. No turbo buttons or rapid fire or shit like that were used. I used a NES, normal controller and a normal American NTSC Contra cartridge and a DVD recorder to "catch" the run. Also "Nystroem" who helped me to buy the game trough Ebay. Without it this run should not have been this good and to Nate for the help to get a DVD recorder so I could record the run. A few hours of attempts ended up with this run.īiggest Thanks goes to Tommy "Tmont" Montgomery for his old run in 11:25. My best time for Probotector was 13:25 when Contra arrived from USA. Probotector is slower and the charachters is robots instead of "warguys" there. Its the same game as Contra with two exceptions. Available in six versions: normal/low quality DivX, and normal/high/insane/low quality H.264 MPEG-4. Speed run of Contra done on June 12 2006.
